Landscape Artwork Size Guide

Above a sofa, a bed or a long table, a landscape work is judged on width — it should span most of what sits beneath it without crowding the edges. Tell us the spot and how you would like the work finished, and we draw every size to scale on your wall, recommend the one that anchors it, and send you straight to it.

Which way does your work face?

This page starts on landscape — the wide format made for sofas, beds, dining tables and long walls. If the work you have in mind is taller than it is wide, the portrait guide sizes it by its own rules; you can switch at any time.

Asked often

The questions every wall asks.

How do I choose the right size artwork for my wall?

Measure the width of the furniture or wall it will hang above and aim for artwork roughly two-thirds of that width — between 60 and 80 per cent reads as balanced and intentional. Leave at least a hand-width of wall either side, and when in doubt choose the larger size: artwork rarely looks too big once it is hung.

What size artwork should go above a sofa?

About two-thirds the width of the sofa — around 145 to 175 cm for a standard three-seater, which is our Large to Giant sizes. Hang the bottom edge 15 to 25 cm above the sofa back so the two read as one arrangement.

When should I choose a landscape artwork?

Landscape suits wide furniture and open walls — above a three-seat sofa, a bed head, a dining table or a sideboard, where the work can stretch to about two-thirds of the width beneath it. It also sits happily under lower ceilings that would crowd a tall portrait piece.

What is the difference between finished size and image size?

Finished size is the outside edge of the frame or stretched canvas — the measurement to plan your wall with. With a matboard the printed image sits inside a white border, so the image is smaller than the finished size; full-bleed and canvas options carry the image to the edge.

Which finish should I choose — framed print or canvas?

Framed fine art prints sit behind UV-resistant acrylic and suit living rooms, bedrooms and hallways; a matboard gives the image breathing room, while full bleed runs it to the frame edge. Canvas has no glazing, so it is the calm choice in bright rooms where glass would reflect, and above dining tables. Every framed and stretched option arrives ready to hang.

How high should I hang artwork?

Above furniture, leave 15 to 25 cm between the top of the piece and the bottom of the frame so they read as one arrangement. On an open wall, place the centre of the work a little above eye level — around 150 cm from the floor — and keep a clear margin below the ceiling.

Can I see the artwork in my room before I buy?

Yes — every product page has a room preview that places the work, at your chosen size and frame, on your own photo of the wall. Our complimentary styling service will also mock the work up to scale in your room photograph: send a straight-on photo and a rough width and we reply with size and finish suggestions.
