How long it will take to professionally hang art in your house will depend on several factors, including the number of artwork, the size of the artwork, the type of frames, and the wall surface.
Generally speaking, hanging a single artwork can take anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour. If you have multiple artwork to hang, the process will naturally take longer.
The size of the pictures is also a factor. Larger prints will require more time to hang. Similarly, if you have large or heavy frames, it will take longer to hang them securely.
The wall surface will play a factor. If you hang an artwork on a drywall surface, it will take longer than if you are to hang an artwork on a brick or concrete wall.
We can help provide an indication of how long yours will take when we respond to your enquiry.
Picture hanging is an art form in and of itself. There's a certain balance that has to be struck between the artwork, the frame, and the wall. The last thing you want is for your beautiful piece to come crashing down in the middle of the night.

1. Always hang single artwork at eye level
We've found that hanging a single piece of art at eye level is ideal; the perfect distance is 1.5m from the centre of the piece to the floor.
It's fine to hang art 10-15cm above furniture. A landscape framed print that will hang over a sofa or console should be around two thirds the width of the furniture.
2. Make sure your art display is level
A professional-looking display also depends on your art being level. Measure and mark the location of the frame's top on the wall first. To hang the work, mark the spot with a line of painter's tape after using a level to determine an even placement.
3. Think about spacing
Inconsistent spacing between parts is a common spacing mistake. Not spacing multiple pieces of art consistently throws everything off. When creating a gallery wall, the key is to ensure the spaces between the pieces are consistent. This will keep the gallery wall looking neat and professional.
4. Pay attention to weight
Typically, interior walls are constructed with a wood frame and a covering. Drywall is the material that is most frequently used in modern homes, which you can most likely hang your pictures on. Always make sure you use weight-appropriate hooks.
Generally speaking, mounting tape, adhesive wall hooks, or hanging strips can be used to hang images that weigh less than 2kg. Plastic drywall anchors are a suitable choice for pictures that weigh between 2kg and 9kg, while metal wall anchors or wall studs are both good choices for pictures that weigh between 9kg and 20kg.
Use a rail cable hanging kit for anything heavy or as a general option for hanging several images.
5. When in doubt, use templates
Cut paper templates to fit each piece of art if you're hanging it by yourself, then adhere the paper cut-outs to the wall with painter's tape.
The scale of the artwork will then be visible from a distance, giving you the chance to judge how well it complements the size of your room and your furniture.
You want to ensure that your artwork is hanging correctly and safely, so we do recommend using a professional picture hanging company. The cost of replacing or repairing damaged frames can be more than just hiring someone who knows what they're doing.

If you do decide to hang a heavy artwork yourself, there are a few things to keep in mind:
- When deciding where to hang your artwork, make sure that the wall you choose can support its weight.
- It is important to use the proper hardware for the job, such as D-rings or hooks rated for the weight of your artwork. Our frames come with d-rings & string which provide a sturdy hanging system for every size of artwork, and the string will help to prevent the artwork from falling off the wall if one of the fasteners should fail.
- Always use two hooks or nails, placed an equal distance apart. This will help to distribute the weight evenly and prevent the frame from becoming lopsided.
- Make sure that the hooks or nails are securely anchored into a stud or solid wall surface. Otherwise, the weight of the artwork could cause them to come loose, possibly damaging the frame or causing injury.
- Ensure the artwork is hung at the correct level. By following these simple guidelines, you can be confident that your heavy artwork will be safely and securely displayed.

There are a variety of ways to safely and effectively display artwork in your home without damaging walls. Below are some of the more popular methods:
- Adhesive strips: Adhesive strips are an easy, affordable way to hang your favourite artwork without damaging the walls. There are multiple sizes and strengths available so you can find one that will work perfectly for your wall and weight of the artwork. Remember to follow the specific package instructions carefully - this is a key factor in mitigating damage from occurring.
- Velcro: Velcro is another great option to hang artwork without damaging your walls. It comes in many colours and sizes, and can be easily applied, and is versatile on a variety of different walls. And if you ever need to take the artwork down, it's a simple matter of peeling off the Velcro strips.
-
Nails: Hanging artwork with nails is a great way to add some curb appeal and creativity, but it can damage your walls if not done properly. The type of nail you use will depend on the size of space available for installation as well how far from ground level or high up in between spots where pictures might go - so make sure that before starting any project!
Top tip: nail colour also matters. A light shade like white looks better than something dark because ink absorbs into lighter surfaces more easily than darker ones do (making them look dirtier).
It can be tricky to hang a heavy picture on plasterboard, crumbly or uneven walls, however we partner a wide range of professionals who are able to assist with almost every scenario! We will ensure that we find the perfect professional for even the most difficult scenarios.
For those who are looking to do it themselves, there are a few tricks you can use to ensure that your prints stay put, no matter what type of wall you're working with:
- Make sure to use the proper screws and nails. For plaster board walls, it's best to use screws that are at least 3 inches long.
- Use wall anchors to help distribute the weight of the artwork evenly.
- It's important to avoid hanging anything too heavy on plaster board walls, as they may not be able to support the weight.
- Heavy duty wall hooks are a good option as they are designed to grip into plasterboard and other types of materials without damaging the wall. To use a wall hook, simply push it into the wall until the hook is flush with the surface, then use a screw or nail to secure the hook in place. Once the hook is secure, you can hang your artwork from it using wire or string. Just make sure that the wire or string is rated to support the weight of your artwork.
