For centuries, the gondolas of Venice have been piloted exclusively by men. Giorgia Boscolo is the first woman to become a female gondoliere in Venice, after a strict tradition of over 900 years. This achievement is all the more impressive given the fact that she faced considerable opposition from those who believed that women didn't belong on the city's canals. But she persevered, completing the challenging training program and passing the notoriously difficult test that all gondolieri must take.
Today, she serves as a proud ambassador for her city, showing visitors from all over the world just what Venice's legendary gondolas are really all about. As she rows through the canals, she feels a sense of history in her hands. The oar is an extension of her body, and she can feel the weight of venetian culture and tradition with every stroke. She is aware that she is making history as she rows; as the very first woman to do this. And yet, despite the gravity of the moment, she also feels light and free. She is carrying on a tradition, but she is also forging her own path. She is cleared by Venice to be a gondoliere, and in this moment, nothing else matters. She is doing something that has never been done before, and it feels exhilarating.
Let the Giorgia Boscolo fine art print be a reminder that there is no limits to what we can achieve.
